I am currently deployed to Afghanistan.  Due to the nature of my deployment and the horrible Internet connection here, I probably won't be updating this blog much until late February when I return.  Please stop by my regular Live Journal page at foxglovehp for hopefully frequent updates.  Thanks for your interest in my photos.  I hope to post more soon, and am looking for models to work with when I return.

We saw this eagle on our way home from The Homestead. I love Virginia. Some people live their entire lives without ever seeing a Bald Eagle in the wild. We have quite a few of them in Virginia. There is even some within a mile or two of our home. Remarkable.

I didn't have enough lens to really get up close and personal with him, but I like these results anyway.

This is the indoor pool at The Homestead. We were swimming in waters fed by the hot springs while the snow was falling outside the windows. This pool was built about 1903 and is absolutely beautiful!

Finally. Nikon has introduced the D3, a digital SLR with a full-sized 35mm image sensor. All the lenses can finally be used at their true focal length, not to mention it's a whopping big image sensor. 9fps on autofocus, 51 point autofocus, and 12.1 megapixel CMOS, 3" VGA monitor. W00t! What's not to like?

Okay, maybe the price tag. But frankly, $5000 doesn't seem that much for what is probably the best Nikon ever.
